John Neil OBE (1935-2022)
Monday 21st November 2022We remember and celebrate the life of John Neil OBE, Honorary Brigade President, who died earlier this month.
John began his BB journey in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, but could have had no idea then of the part the organisation would play in his life.
John would go on to be at the centre of many national initiatives and events, both as a Training Officer for the Brigade, followed by an appointment as Secretary to Glasgow Battalion, in which he carried responsibility for the planning and presentation of the Centenary celebrations in Glasgow in 1983.
He served the wider youth work sector as Chair of the Board of Directors of YouthLink Scotland and was also Chair of the Church of Scotland’s Internal Audit and Central Co-ordinating Committee.
John served as Brigade President from 2004 to 2005, during which he and his wife Nan travelled extensively across the country meeting leaders and young people.
He was appointed an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Her Majesty The Queen for services to young people in 1995.
