Within The Boys’ Brigade, each Company completes an annual Statistical Return and pays a membership (capitation) fee, which is based on numbers of children, young people and adult leaders.
This fee is agreed each year at Brigade Council, our Annual General Meeting.
The membership fee enables a range of services to be provided to support leaders as they in turn provide opportunities for children and young people to learn, grow and discover in a safe, fun and caring environment, rooted in the Christian faith.
The services, resources and support provided to leaders includes:
Programme
- Termly programme activities across six Activity Areas and four age groups
- Variety of themed programmes, often developed with partner organisations
- Range of national events, challenges and competitions to support and compliment local programmes
- Major Awards delivery (President’s/King’s Badges & Duke of Edinburgh’s Award)
Development
- Development staff to support individual groups
- Recruitment and marketing resources that can be used locally
- Provision of Online Brigade Manager (OBM), giving leaders the ability to do all of their administration in one simple, secure, system
- Exploring opportunities for establishing new groups and building relationship with Church partners
Leader Development
- Training resources to ensure leaders are up-to-date with the knowledge needed to understand their responsibilities and carry out their role safely
- Network of trainers (Leader Development Community) to deliver training
- Access to face-to-face, virtual and e-learning training
- Specific support and resources for developing young leaders
Keeping Everyone Safe
- Safer recruitment process (including leader registration and disclosure checking)
- Safeguarding and managing risk guidance
- Insurance (Public Liability & Personal Accident)
Volunteer Support and Information
- Support and advice for leaders via phone and email
- Website and e-updates to keep leaders informed
- Gazette magazine published twice per year
