Youth Leader Training aims to enable participants to deliver the BB mission by equipping them with the skills, knowledge and attitudes to work effectively with children and young people.

BB Headquarters is offering this course virtually over five Thursdays in May & June 2025.

To complete YLT, 7/8 sessions are required to be completed. For the ‘Working with…’ modules you should complete the one which relates to the age group you are working in (Over 11s for Company & Seniors, Under 11s for Anchors & Juniors)

There are slight variations in the Safeguarding module for England and Scotland. The Scotland version has additional material which allows the training to be recognised by the Church of Scotland as equivalent to their Introductory course. Their introductory course would still have to be completed if the leader carries out any other regulated work within the Church.

Prior to attending, participants must be registered with The Boys’ Brigade and have completed the e-learning modules in Safeguarding and Managing Risk.

The modules will be delivered as follows:

Thursday 8th May

  • Your Role in The Boys’ Brigade (7:00pm to 8:15pm)
  • Managing Risk (8:15pm to 9:15pm)

Thursday 15th May

  • Safeguarding (6:45pm to 9:30pm)
  • Safeguarding – Scottish Version add-on (9:30pm to 9:45pm)

Thursday 22nd May

  • Working with Over 11s (7:00pm to 9:30pm)
  • Working with Under 11s (7:00pm to 9:30pm)

Thursday 29th May

  • Delivering a Quality Programme (7:00pm to 9:30pm)

Thursday 5th June

  • Equal Opportunities (7:00pm to 7:50pm)
  • Sharing Faith (8:00pm to 9:30pm)

Joining instructions, including the Zoom code will be circulated 5 days prior to the start of the course.

Whilst full YLT is being offered, there is also an opportunity for leaders to complete any of the modules as a standalone, either to upskill/as a refresher, or to complete remaining modules required after missing some whilst previously working towards YLT.
