Celebrating our Trustees

Friday 8th November 2024

This week (4th to 8th November) is Trustees’ Week, an opportunity to showcase the work and celebrate the achievements of nearly one million trustees across the UK.

The Boys’ Brigade is a registered charity whose Trustee body, known as the Brigade Executive, is made up of elected representatives who cover a broad range of experiences, backgrounds and geographical areas. Many of them are currently active as volunteer leaders in their local groups.

One of these is Eden Fisher, who has recently become Captain of 54th Sheffield as well as one of the Brigade’s Trustees as an Under 26 Representative. We spoke to Eden to find out a bit more about his journey and why he became a trustee.

Why did you become a BB leader?

The main reason I became a leader is to give back to this amazing organisation and help young people develop and get the opportunities I got whilst growing up.

Over the last year I’ve also become a Captain, which made me both very nervous but also very excited by the challenge, being only 23. However, with support from other leaders I have started to grow and develop my skills whilst learning how to support them.

What is your highlight of being involved in BB so far?

My highlight of being involved in BB was being invited to the Houses of Parliament for the launch of the Youth Culture and Trends research. It was fantastic to be given the opportunity to celebrate and represent our organisation with the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Why did you become a trustee?

I became a trustee because I wanted to help shape the future of the organisation and help be a voice of the young leaders within the organisation.

Transitioning from being a young person to a young leader can be a challenging stage in a person’s life, but with the right support I hope I can help.

What do you do when not at BB?

Outside of the BB I am a university lecturer, and love to play rugby.
