Our Fundraising Challenge to support YoungMinds

Thursday 10th September 2026

At the start of this year we launched our Fundraising Challenge – a year-long opportunity for the BB family to come together to raise vital funds to support YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity championing the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

It’s been great to hear about what local BB groups have already been doing as part of the Fundraising Challenge, and the plans that other groups have as we head towards World Mental Health Day on 10th October.

Joanne Ryder, a leader at 133rd London (Haringey), told us about the ways in which all of their young people have got involved:

“The Boys’ Brigade’s partnership with YoungMinds is so important. Our group has taken part in three main fundraising events to support the partnership, and have managed to raise nearly £1,500 so far.

“Our biggest fundraising achievement was the 60 Miles in June Challenge, which involved all our age groups taking part. Everyone started the challenge with a group walk at the beginning of June, after which the young people were encouraged to complete the remaining miles at home throughout the month.

“We also held a cake sale at Church, involving the Company and Seniors age groups. We baked and decorated a variety of cakes and sold them to members of the congregation after the Church Parade. Our third event was a collection for YoungMinds at our Awards Evening.”

Martin Dunbar, Captain of 4th & 5th Fraserburgh, shared a bit about how they will be getting involved in ‘Hello Yellow’ next month:

“We are delighted to be taking part in YoungMinds’ ‘Hello Yellow’ event around World Mental Health Day in October. Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people is something that is important to us.

“We’ll be encouraging everyone to wear something yellow, take part in some fun yellow-themed activities and games, and help raise funds for the fantastic work of YoungMinds.”

Katie Skinner highlighted the ways in which 1st Faversham have been raising awareness and supporting the work of YoungMinds:

“We’ve added craft activities into our evening for things we could make and sell, such as bracelets and magnets, to support the work of YoungMinds. We have also planned with the local school to go in on yellow day in October and have a stall after school to sell cakes and biscuits that we will have made and decorated in yellow.

“It’s a great charity to support with our young people, especially with how difficult life is for them in this day and age. To know they are not alone and support is available can make all the difference.”

If your group has not yet done so, there is still time to get involved in the Fundraising Challenge and support YoungMinds…

Big Coffee Morning – 19th & 20th September

We’re inviting Companies to host their very own coffee mornings, to bring your Company, Church and community together for a great cause. Even if you can’t do this date, why not pick a date nearby that works for you?

Hello Yellow – 5th to 11th October

We’re encouraging groups to get involved with ‘Hello Yellow’, YoungMinds’ annual awareness day, linked to World Mental Health Day (10th October).

We’d love to see as many groups as possible take on some activities during the week of 5th to 11th October in support of Hello Yellow. As part of the session you could also run yellow themed games and activities, organise a yellow bake sale or take on some fundraising challenges. It’s a simple but powerful way to show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health.

To support you in running a Hello Yellow Programme, we’ve created some themed programmes filled with ideas and activities to get involved with. These are available for Anchors, Juniors & Company/Seniors. You can also sign up directly with YoungMinds, via their website, to receive more Hello Yellow resources and activities to support you with your session.
