International Women’s Day – Jennifer’s story

Thursday 8th March 2018

Please introduce yourself

Jennifer Kay Mcintosh, Officer in charge of 1st Buckie Company Boys’ Brigade for 39 years.

Why do you volunteer as a BB leader?

I was introduced to The Boys’ Brigade through my husband’s involvement and with my own two sons, now aged 37 and the other 30 years. Both Queen’s Men and the youngest is still an active officer in 1st .  I also enjoy working with the younger boys and watching them develop their skills. It is then good to see them achieve their Queen’s Badge and often staying on in the Company as Junior Leaders.

What do you think has been your biggest achievement in the BB?

Being awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to The Boys’ Brigade.

What female role model inspires you?

Her Majesty the Queen. She is an inspiration to all ages and  shows the leadership and commitment which are two qualities that I think are essential for being an leader.

How do think your volunteering influences others – particularly young women?

I am encouraged by the number of girls who come along to support the Anchor Boys and Junior Section. The get a firm grounding, are always made to feel welcome, are involved in activities and will often go on the develop their skills in further/higher education or employment.
