Celebrating our leaders: Ian’s story

Friday 25th November 2022

The Boys’ Brigade has over 10,000 volunteer leaders across the country who support children and young people to learn, grow and discover. Over the course of 2022 we are sharing some of their stories each month as we celebrate our amazing leaders.

Meet Ian

Ian Packham is Captain of 4th Bromley and Vice-President of Bromley Battalion. He was recently a finalist in BBC Kent’s Make a Difference Awards for 2022, having been nominated for his work within his own BB group as well as supporting other groups within South East London.

Why did you become a BB leader?

I recognised what others had done for me and wanted to give something back. I felt that God was calling me to work with young people.

What is your highlight of your time in BB so far?

There are so many highlights. As a leader seeing those excited and smiling faces enjoying the fun and excitement of being at summer camp, singing their hearts out in worship and just being there for one another.

What do you do when not at BB?

I work as a lithographic printer and spend time caring for my family. I also enjoy listening to music and watching movies.

How would you describe the BB in three words?

Fun, faith, discovery.
