Any form of abuse is unacceptable. We recognise that some people may have had harmful experiences within The Boys’ Brigade in the past. We are deeply sorry for anyone who has suffered abuse in our organisation, and we acknowledge the lasting impact this can have.
If this happened to you, you can tell us at any time – no matter how long ago it occurred. The Boys’ Brigade takes all safeguarding concerns and allegations seriously.
We understand that speaking about abuse, especially from many years ago, can feel incredibly difficult. Coming forward is your choice, and you can remain in control of what you share. You will be treated with sensitivity, respect and care. You can report abuse even if the person responsible is no longer involved with the organisation or has passed away.
To report non-recent abuse, you can email safeguarding@boys-brigade.org.uk or call the Safeguarding Manager on 01442 509534.
The Safeguarding Manager will respond promptly. If you are willing, they will gather information from you and explain what will happen next. All allegations of non-recent abuse will be reported to the police. Where we believe children may currently be at risk, Childrens Social Care will be informed.
If you feel able, the Safeguarding Manager may ask when and where the abuse happened, and who was involved. They will only ask for the information necessary to understand the concern; you will not be expected to describe in detail what happened to you.
You can also report anonymously to the Safeguarding Manager here, or via the NSPCC Whistleblowing Advice Line here.
