Graduation Day for Young Leaders!
Sunday 14th February 2016Thirty six young volunteers from across Scotland have graduated from The Boys’ Brigade’s flagship King George VI Youth Leadership Training (KGVI) course.
The young people were presented with their certificates by the Very Reverend Andrew McLellan, Brigade National Chaplain and former Moderator of the Church of Scotland, at a special ceremony at Kirkton Parish Church, Carluke on Saturday 13th February.
Speaking after her graduation, Kalesha Mayne from the 8th Paisley Company, said:
“KGVI has provided me with a qualification, helped improve my leadership and communication skills, whilst at the same time develop friendships which I know will last a lifetime. This incredible experience has given me the motivation and confidence to make a difference for future BB generations.”
The course which began in the 1950s in memory of King George VI is a two year programme which covers key aspects of BB training to equip young leaders to lead activities in their local BB group. It includes a two week residential course and allows young people to show and develop their skills, regardless of academic ability, which they can transfer into the workplace or further education.
Bill Stevenson, Director of The Boys’ Brigade in Scotland, said:
“The KGVI Youth Leadership course is a fantastic experience for our young people. They put in a lot of time and effort and it is only right their hard work is rewarded. We were delighted the Very Reverend Andrew McLellan was able to present the certificates.
“The KGVI graduates go back to their local group and make a significant impact, using their time, talent and enthusiasm to make a difference to the next generation of BB members. Interest in our training for young leaders has grown substantially over the last few years and this is largest number to graduate for some time.
The KGVI Course is SCQF Credit Rated by the SQA and, since its inception, over 2,300 young leaders have benefited from this training.
The 36 young volunteers are joining 1000 other young Boys’ Brigade leaders in the country.
