Sailing with the Ocean Youth Trust
Wednesday 20th August 2025A group of 12 young people from 1st Barrhead, 4th Clydebank, 1st Irvine, 1st Strathaven recently had the opportunity to set sail for five days with the Ocean Youth Trust.
They headed out on the Alba Venturer, a 70′ sailing boat which was built as a gift to the young people of Scotland, and sailed from Greenock to Kilchatten Bay, Tarbet, Holy Loch and back to James Watt Dock in Greenock, covering a total of 88 nautical miles.
During their time together the young people learned about sailing as well as all aspects of being on board a ship including helping with cooking and cleaning.
Everyone received certificates confirming all that they had learned over the week and some will be using the experience towards their King’s Badge.
This opportunity was made possible with support from CashBack for Communities, a project which aims to support young people in Scotland to access safe spaces to develop their confidence, resilience, skills and team building.
