Thank you for agreeing to provide a reference for an individual applying to become a volunteer leader in The Boys’ Brigade.
The Boys’ Brigade is one of the largest Christian youth organisations in the UK, partnering with over 700
Churches and working with over 20,000 children and young people every week.
The Boys’ Brigade is committed to prioritising the safety and wellbeing of children and young people in everything that we do. Our volunteer leaders who work with children and young people are required to complete our safer recruitment process which includes completing a disclosure check and taking up references. Safer recruitment is an essential part of safeguarding, helping to ensure that only suitable adults are selected to volunteer with our children and young people.
Before completing the reference request please read the following:
- This reference request is confidential.
- You must be over 18 years.
- You must NOT be related to the applicant, or to any other person submitting a reference on behalf of an applicant.
- You must NOT be the Captain/Correspondent who completed the Company Nomination section of the Leader Registration Form.
- Only one referee can be a current BB leader, or member of the Church leadership team. Best practice is both references are submitted by individuals that are independent of BB and the Church.
- You should know the applicant well, for a minimum of two years.
- You understand the role that the individual is applying for and that they will be working with children and young people (find out more about Safer Recruitment and Safeguarding in The Boys’ Brigade at boys-brigade.org.uk/safeguarding).
- You should complete this form fully and to the best of your knowledge, ensuring the information you give is current and accurate.
- You understand that this reference will be stored by The Boys’ Brigade in line with its Privacy Policy to support Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment policies and processes.
- You understand that you may be contacted confidentially by The Boys’ Brigade in relation to this reference.
