International Women’s Day – Sandra’s story
Thursday 8th March 2018Please introduce yourself
I am Sandra Laurie a leader with the 28th Bridge of Allan company.
Why do you volunteer as a BB leader?
I joined to make a difference.
What do you think has been your biggest achievement in the BB?
Seeing smiles on the boys’ faces as they achieve things for the first time.
What female role model inspires you?
This is a hard one to narrow down as there are some many women out there who have done great things and who I would like to say I would aim to be like them. But Mother Teresa stands out as she said “Not all of us can do great things. But we can all do small things with love”.
How do think your volunteering influences others – particularly young women?
I hope my volunteering with The Boys’ brigade is seen by other women both younger and older as a good thing to do. The Boys’ Brigade has always been seen as a male orientated group but it’s not. Myself and the hundreds of other women who volunteer are proof.
