‘Juniors100 Memory Wall’ Project

Friday 6th October 2017

The Boys’ Brigade in Scotland has celebrated its 134th birthday by launching a virtual memory wall at a special service at St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.

The service of thanksgiving welcomed current and former BB members, including special guests from 5th Livingston Junior Section, who laid flowers at the Sir William Smith plaque in the Cathedral.  The memory wall, which will go live next month, invites Junior members, who are celebrating the 100th year of the section made of eight to 11-year-olds, to share their best memories.

Inviting both past and present Junior members, the memory wall will be available to view online. There will also be an offline version that will go on display in different parts of the country, including the Scottish Headquarters at Carronvale House and at other BB events.

Members from 65th Edinburgh (Currie), Director for Scotland, John Sharp and Brigade Secretary, Bill Stevenson, also attended the service.

John Sharp said:

“The service was a great opportunity to celebrate the birthday of the BB and a chance to meet current and former members from Edinburgh and Livingston.

“We’ve been going strong for 134 years which is testament to both our proud history and ability to adapt and focus on the changing needs of young people today.

“This year is also extra special as we celebrate the 100th year of the Junior Section. To mark the occasion we are launching a virtual memory wall as a way of capturing all the fantastic memories experienced by our Junior members.

“This initiative will be a terrific way to showcase the different activities and experiences had by the members across Scotland and have the wall as a lasting memory for years to come.”

The service was conducted by Very Rev Dr Russell Barr, former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
