Congratulations to the team from 13th Motherwell BB, Scotland who won the National Final of Masterteam held at Newport in Culcavy, the home of the NI District of The Boys’ Brigade, on Saturday 25 March 2023. In a closely fought competition, 11th Bangor were runners up.
It was a great day with some time for the teams to socialise and have some good NI craic! The hosts were delighted to give goodie bags to all the teams with some special local treats – Veda Bread and Tayto Crisps! Everyone enjoyed a ‘wee poke’ (aka an ice cream cone) during the half-time interval, in some of the finest NI spring weather!

It was a very close competition with only half a point between the 13th Motherwell and runners-up 11th Bangor. Every boy truly deserved their place in the Masterteam final, evidenced by the fact that there were only 5.5 points between the top and bottom scores. In an exciting finish, the leader board changed a few times! All the teams had a mix of ages and there were some very high-scoring rounds. The boys knew what an ‘Ursus Maritimus’ is, (a polar bear) displayed how well they knew American words and everyone scored a full house when finding chemicals in the middle of sentences.

It truly was a great day at Newport. Staff and Leaders thoroughly enjoyed hosting our visiting teams from Scotland and England: 13th Motherwell, 1st Bridge of Weir, 8th Hartlepool and 1st Newport Pagnell along with our 2 BBNI home teams 4th Newtownabbey and 11th Bangor.

Former BB Leader, the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Scott Carson came along to present the winning cups and medals. Speaking at the event he said:

‘I was delighted to join BBNI and the quiz competition at Newport. It was tremendous to see boys come together from across the UK and Ireland to compete and enjoy fellowship with each other. The ability and talent on display were second to none and once again makes me proud to be associated with the Boys’ Brigade.’
