Remembering Our BB Heroes

Each November, BB groups up and down the country take time to pause and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice during wars and conflicts. Young soldiers who left our shores to fight for our country, but never returned.

Many of our former members, from the early to mid 1900’s, marched off to war during WW1 and WW2 with a number playing crucial roles in fighting for our country. This is reflected in inspiring stories of bravery that earnt significant medals, such as the Victoria Cross. The Victoria Cross (VC) is the highest award available to the armed forces for gallantry in action with the enemy, and The Boys’ Brigade is proud that several of its former members achieved this highest honour.

To share these stories and allow children and young people of today to appreciate and respect the bravery and sacrifice of these war heroes, we’ve put together three videos that tell these stories and help bring them to life.

These videos focus on the actions of Lieutenant-Colonel John Dimmer (1st Barnet BB), Sergeant John Hannah (237th Glasgow BB) and Guardsman Edward Charlton (32nd Manchester BB). Check out Lieutenant-Colonel John Dimmer’s story below.

These three videos form part of the Remembering Our BB Heroes’ activity card for the Company age group.
