Basic Expedition Training (Scotland)
Location:
Venue TBC
Members of the Scottish Expedition Training Team are offering a Basic Expedition Training course for leaders and Seniors. This will be run over three Wednesday evenings (26th February, 5th, 12th March 2025).
The course is aimed for those with little or no previous knowledge in expedition work to provide basic knowledge and skills, particularly in areas such as map reading and navigation.
Running a series of evening sessions will allow delegates to practice skills in the weeks between to consolidate learning and to allow any follow-up work or queries to be answered during subsequent sessions.
The intent would be to arrange a practical session post-course to practice skills on-the-ground, likely in the Pentland Hills. This would be arranged separately with attendees.
The course is open to Seniors as well leaders, ideally suited for those looking to progress in advanced awards, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. This may be particularly suited where there isn’t expedition knowledge or experience within the Company but a desire amongst Seniors to progress in these award areas.
The timing of the course is also intended to allow those who might wish to progress or further knowledge and assessment in expedition work by attending the Scottish Expedition Training weekend at Carronvale House on 30th May to 1st June 2025 (details to follow).
