Burns Supper at Carronvale House

A very special evening at Carronvale House on Monday 23rd January to celebrate the life & works of the Bard.

Advance for the Future

Start time: 10:00

Location: Apex Grassmarket Hotel, 31 Grassmarket , Edinburgh , EH1 2HS

Invitation for: Battalion President, Secretary, Under-26 rep and Chaplain

A special event which will focus  at ways in which Battalions can best support Companies and how Scottish Headquarters and the Scotland Committee can best support Battalions in doing so.

Inputs will be from Battalions sharing some best practice ideas, together with areas where things have not gone so well and workshops, covering topics like company support, good governance, under-26 participation, BB voice for young people, funding and PR opportunities.

The invitation is for the people listed above, but if they are unable to attend, it is appropriate to substitute another Battalion rep.

Cross-country Championships 2017

Start time: 11:30

Location: Bellahouston Sports Centre, 31 Bellahouston Drive , Glasgow , G52 1HH

Annual Cross-country championships for BB members in Company and Senior sections from across Scotland take place on Saturday 18th March in Glasgow.  Friends and supporters are encouraged to join us for the day’s events.

Battalion teams compete at Junior (3km), Intermediate (4km) and at Senior (5km) levels at a specially designed course at Bellahouston Park.
Registration opens at 11:30am in Bellahouston Sports Centre with the Junior Race starting at 1:00pm, Intermediate at 1:30pm and the Senior Event at 2:00pm. The presentation of prizes is scheduled for 2:45pm in the sports centre.

Scottish Bands Contest

Start time: 12:30

Location: Hutcheson's Grammar School, 21 Beaton Road , Glasgow , G41 4NW

This annual showcase competition welcomes BB bands from around the country.  The event will see woodwind, pipe and brass bands compete in a number of separate competitions.  The Contest also welcomes bands with less experienced players in the ‘Novice’ section.

Making this event even more special are the many supporters and spectators which are a great encouragement to the bands.

Tickets are available on the day.

Seniors’ Sevens

Start time: 14:00

Location: Forthbank Stadium, Springkerse , Stirling , FK7 7UJ

Annual football tournament for seniors (representing their battalion) takes place on the afternoon of April 9th at the Forthbank Stadium in Stirling from 2pm.  Cost per team is £30.

Easter Sports Camp

Start time: 12:00

Easter Sports Camp @ Carrronvale

After a break in 2016, the Easter Discover Sports Camp will return this year, running 10-12 April at Carronvale House. Open to all Company Section members (P7-S3), the three days will include taster sessions in a number of sports – both popular and less well known activities – as well as team competitions. The cost of the residential will be £55, which includes all meals and activities.  This residential event also could serve as residential part of the President’s Badge.

Camp on Cumbrae

Start time: 18:30

Camp is a great opportunity for all young people to have the experience of living under canvas and taking part in outdoor activities and this one has the added bonus of being in an island setting.

The camp is for company section-aged young people who do not have the staff or equipment to lead such a weekend.

The camp site for the weekend will be within the Garrison Grounds which is in the centre of Millport. After your crossing on the ferry from Largs, you will make your way into Millport, where your weekend accommodation will be set up for your arrival and young leaders will be ready to take charge and activities will begin!

The weekend will cost £80 per person which includes:

  • Accommodation in Tents
  • All meals – Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners & Suppers
  • Activities include :
    •  ½ day of water sports
    • cycling
    • bowling
    • hill-walking
    • crazy golf
    • live music
    • football tournaments
    • inter-tent competitions, prizes and so much more!
    • Group T-shirts & wrist bands

Kilbryde Hike – 10th-11th June 2017

Start time: 8:00

The Hike is for young people in teams as described above. Although organised by Boys’ Brigade Officers, it is open to entries from all youth organisations and groups. Teams can be made up of boys, girls or a mix

Teams will be given grid references to navigate themselves from checkpoint to checkpoint around the hike course, with set time limits. At each checkpoint teams will face either a physical or mental challenge for additional points

The Hike can be used as a practice expedition for the Duke of Edinburgh Award at Bronze Level, or why not use the Hike as a sponsored event to raise funds for your organisation or a local charity?

Vienna 2017 – YLN Scotland

This summer will see BB Scotland young leaders have the chance to travel to the amazing Austrian capital, Vienna!

Without doubt, Vienna boasts an incredible history, not least because of its famous former residents – most notably Mozart, Beethoven and Freud.  However, it’s also a very modern and vibrant place – with numerous must-see sights.  In additional to the sightseeing, you’ll get your own time to explore and also enjoy the company of other BB young leaders from around Scotland.
