Sunday 11th September 2022I remember watching the Queen arrive at the Stadium at the opening ceremony of both the 2002 Manchester Commonwealth Games, and the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. She arrived at both to a rapturous reception, and we all sang with gusto “God Save the Queen”.
Another memory I have is following the bomb at the Arena in Manchester – the Prime Minister came up and spoke to the Fire Brigade and Police officials … the Queen came up and visited victims of the bombing in hospital. It showed her concern for her people.
There was a tremendous affection for the Queen … she was our Head of State, but she was more than that – she cared too.
God bless you ma’am. You will be a hard act to follow.
