Celebrating #BBatHOME

Celebrating #BBatHOME

20th August

Despite the challenges presented by Covid-19 over the past few months, we have continued to live out our vision that children and young people experience “life to the full” (John 10:10).

Following government guidance, all face-to-face BB activity was suspended on Monday 16th March. By the end of that week, we were able to launch an alternative online programme called #BBatHOME, which allowed us to continue to engage with children and young people through a balanced programme of activities in their own homes, supported by their parents/carers. Roughly 300 brand new activities were created, with an average of 5,500 downloads of our activity packs over a 17 week period. An estimated 20,000 children and young people were reached through #BBatHOME.

We believe that #BBatHOME has been a fantastic example of our innovative approach to youth work. It also speaks volumes of how much we care for our members and their families, providing much needed fun and entertainment during difficult times.

“#BBatHOME has done so much for this family’s mental health during lockdown. They’ve kept us laughing together, even on tough days. I can’t thank you enough.”

As well as sharing the #BBatHOME Activity Packs, BB leaders have kept in contact with the children and young people in their groups, as well as their families, through a variety of ways including running Virtual Sessions and delivering activity/care packs. We cannot thank our leaders enough for their dedication and commitment throughout a particularly challenging year.

“As a family, we’ve really appreciated the efforts made by the leaders and volunteers during these uncertain times. Their commitment to weekly Zoom meetings and staying in touch with the young people has been a really positive experience for our son. I think the BB activities will feature strongly and positively in his memories of this time.”

We had a fantastic response to national initiatives that we held over the last few months, including BB’s Got Talent, an Art Competition, the Great BB Bake Off, and our first ever virtual weekend event called Unite & Cumbrae Camp at Home.

More recently, children and young people have had the opportunity to get involved in our Summer Adventures resource, a list of 20 outdoor activities to have a go at over the summer months.

Although the past few months have certainly been challenging and unsettling, we are proud that we have been able to continue reaching out and engaging with children and young people, providing them with opportunities to learn, grow and discover in their own homes and local areas.
