Getting into the Activity

Build an outdoor cinema and then enjoy watching a movie in the open air or even under the stars.

This activity works best with a projector, speakers and a large screen or bed sheet. Ideally run this activity when the light is starting to fade to help see the image better. You may need to build a sun shade to help block the sun if you are watching the film during daylight hours.

As well as setting up a cinema, you’ll also need to consider seating. Young people can use beanbags, cushions or chairs to create a seating area to enjoy the film from.

Have a selection of age appropriate films which are a suitable running length for the time that you are meeting. Let young people vote on the films, so they can choose which one to watch. If you don’t have time to watch a whole film, then consider watching an episode of comedy series or similar.

Young people could bring their own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the film or you could create some during the session. Any food preparation must be carried out under current COVID guidelines.

Put the film on, sit back and enjoy!
