Forest Obstacles

Forest Obstacles

What You’ll Need:

  • Forest / Woodland Items (branches, tree stumps, sticks, trees etc)

Getting into the Activity

Get active with nature by using what you can find in a forest / woodland area to create a fun obstacle course.

Forests are full of natural obstacles to climb over, duck under, weave through and go between. Encourage the group to use their imagination to create an obstacle course, using what they find around them. This could be individually or in small teams.

Once created, challenge each child to complete the course. See who can do it in the quickest time. Ideas for obstacles might include:

  • Balance along a log
  • Stepping stones through a puddle
  • Crawl under a fallen branch
  • Jump across a small hole
  • Run around a tree
  • Jump over a mound of earth
  • Limbo under a stick
  • Weave between trees

Alternatively this activity could be created by a leader beforehand with the leader going first and the rest of the group following on together.

Keeping Everyone Safe

  • Activity MUST be supervised by a leader or parent/carer at ALL times.
  • A leader or parent/carer MUST assess risk before taking part.
  • A leader or parent/carer MUST ensure that current Government guidelines are followed at all times (including social distancing, travel etc).
  • Please check that obstacles are safe and appropriate for use in this activity.
