Chair Football

Tuesday 1st September 2020

Get Active: Chair Football

Age Group: Company / Seniors

Time: 20 Minutes

Preparation Needed: In the Cupboard

What You’ll Need:

  • Chairs
  • Football
  • Cones

Getting into the Activity:

A variation of football which encourages players to focus on accurate passing and interceptions.

Each person playing will need to have a chair. Chairs should be positioned evenly around the playing area. A goal should be created at each end of the room using cones. Young people should be split into two teams and evenly spread amongst the chairs, one player to each chair.

During the game, young people cannot leave their chair or move it. Instead they must remain seated at all time. Play a normal game of football under these conditions. Players will need to pass the ball back and forth amongst their team, trying to find gaps in the room which allows play to move up towards the goal.

The team without possession will need to try and intercept the ball where they can and then once they have the ball can start passing it amongst their team.

When a goal is scored, the ball should restart in the centre, with the non-scoring team starting with the ball. Between goals, young people could change their position if they wish to. The team with the most goals at the end of the game is the winner.

Keeping Everyone Safe

Maintain social distancing where required. Young people should be allocated a chair and then stick with that chair for the whole game. Chairs should be cleaned after use.
